The James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation was inspired by one family’s long commitment to youth, education, and service, and built to carry it forward.
The Foundation began in 2008, inspired by college professor Stanford Livingston Luce, Jr., who passed away in 2007. It was incorporated in New York State and holds tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status.
From the start the mission has been simple: find young people with the will to change the world, and give their leadership room to grow. The Foundation pursues it through grants, centers, awards, and publications, and through The Stewardship Report on Connecting Goodness, which has now spotlighted more than 1,500 organizations and individuals uplifting humanity.
Our history
The work began in 1998 with Orphans International Worldwide, under the motto “Raising Global Leaders.” It was joined in 2008 by the J. Luce Foundation, “Supporting Young Global Leadership.” The Stewardship Report began publication in 2010.
In 2015 the Young Global Leadership Initiative took shape as a chapter of Lions Club International, and in 2016 a Toastmasters chapter was added to give young leaders real tools for public life. The two organizations continue to work closely together, guided by a shared creed: Honor, Intelligence, Integrity, Benevolence, and Stewardship.

Young Global Leader
A commitment of service, including participation in Lions Club, Toastmasters, and The Stewardship Report.
Senior Young Global Leader
Mentor Young Global Leaders, edit The Stewardship Report, and help coordinate the leadership programs.
Global Advisor, Fellow, Scholar & Artist-in-Residence
Mentor Senior Young Global Leaders and serve on the committees that run the Foundation’s work.
Board Member & Awardee
Mentor Global Advisors, serve on a committee, and help steer the Foundation’s direction.
Staff, Fund Chair & World Congress Chair
Lead the Endowment Funds or the World Congress that carries the mission onto the world stage.
